Authenticator App for Rockstar Games 2FA: Set Up Authenticator App & Secure Social Club

socialclub.rockstargames.com ↗

If you still think of your login as a Rockstar Games Social Club account, the name has changed.

Rockstar Games retired the Social Club branding and moved those account services directly into the main Rockstar Games experience. Your existing account, User ID, password, and linked services still continue to work.

For account security, Rockstar supports 2-Step Verification using an authenticator app.

That means you can connect your Rockstar Games account to a compatible authenticator and use temporary verification codes when signing in.

Does Rockstar Games Support Authenticator Apps?

Yes.

Rockstar officially supports authenticator-based 2-Step Verification.

You can use either:

  • A mobile authenticator app
  • A browser-based authenticator app

Before enabling 2-Step Verification, Rockstar requires you to verify the email address associated with your account.

Once setup is complete, your login may require:

Rockstar password + temporary authenticator code

Rockstar describes the authenticator setup as a private key shared between your Rockstar Games account and your chosen authentication app.

How to Set Up Rockstar Games 2-Step Verification

Start from your Rockstar Games account.

Then:

  1. Sign in to your Rockstar Games account.
  2. Select your account icon.
  3. Open Account or Manage Account.
  4. Go to Security.
  5. Find 2-Step Verification.
  6. Scan the QR code using your authenticator app.
  7. If scanning does not work, use the Secret Key option instead.
  8. Enter the current authenticator code.
  9. Enter your Rockstar Games account password.
  10. Select Verify.

Once verified, 2-Step Verification becomes active on the account.

Rockstar officially documents both QR-code setup and manual Secret Key entry.

How to Add Rockstar Games to Authenticator ℠ App

Open Authenticator ℠ App only after Rockstar displays the setup QR code.

Then:

  1. Choose to add a new account.
  2. Scan the QR code shown by Rockstar.
  3. Save the Rockstar Games entry.
  4. Copy the current temporary code.
  5. Return to Rockstar Games.
  6. Enter the code along with your Rockstar password.
  7. Confirm setup.

If your camera cannot scan the QR code, use Rockstar’s Secret Key instead.

Do not create a random Rockstar entry manually without using the QR code or Secret Key provided by Rockstar. The authenticator needs that exact secret to generate valid verification codes.

Why Rockstar 2FA Matters for Gaming Accounts

A Rockstar Games account can be connected to more than one game or platform.

Depending on your account, it may be associated with:

  • Grand Theft Auto Online
  • Red Dead Online
  • Rockstar Games Launcher
  • PlayStation Network
  • Xbox network
  • Other Rockstar services

That makes account access more valuable than a simple profile login.

Rockstar states that 2-Step Verification helps protect accounts against theft and unauthorized access because an attacker would need both your password and the current verification code.

Remember This Device

Rockstar provides a Remember this device option after 2-Step Verification is enabled.

When you trust a device, Rockstar may allow future sign-ins on that device without asking for the verification code every time.

This can make 2FA less disruptive on your own computer while still providing extra protection when a login happens from another device.

Only use this option on devices you personally control.

Avoid marking shared PCs, public computers, gaming cafés, or other people’s devices as trusted.

Moving Rockstar 2FA to a New Phone

Changing phones is one of the most common ways people lose access to authenticator-based accounts.

If you still have access to your Rockstar account, move 2FA before wiping your old device.

Rockstar’s documented process is:

  1. Sign in to Rockstar Games.
  2. Open your account settings.
  3. Go to 2-Step Verification.
  4. Find the existing 2-Step Verification device.
  5. Select Remove.
  6. Set up 2-Step Verification again.
  7. Scan the new QR code with the authenticator on your new device.
  8. Enter the new code and your Rockstar password.
  9. Confirm the change.

This creates a new 2FA relationship for the new authenticator device.
