Authenticator App for IHG: 2FA for IHG One Rewards and Employee Accounts
ihg.com ↗If you are looking for an IHG authenticator app, the first thing to check is which IHG account you are trying to protect. IHG One Rewards customer accounts and IHG employee/network accounts do not use the same authentication system.
IHG’s public One Rewards help currently explains sign-in, password reset, account information, and email-based account recovery, but it does not publish a standard TOTP authenticator-app setup flow for regular One Rewards members. IHG employee systems, on the other hand, use multi-factor authentication and include an Entrust authenticator process.
That difference matters before you download or configure any authenticator app.
Does IHG One Rewards Support an Authenticator App?
For a regular IHG One Rewards account, IHG’s public customer-care documentation does not currently provide instructions for connecting Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or another TOTP app.
The official IHG FAQ tells members to sign in with their email address and password and provides email-based password-reset instructions when access is lost. It does not document a QR-code-based authenticator setup under the public One Rewards account settings.
This means you should not manually create an IHG entry in an authenticator app unless IHG itself displays an authenticator QR code or setup key for your specific account.
An authenticator cannot generate a valid IHG login code just from the account name. The service must first provide a shared setup secret.
IHG One Rewards vs IHG Employee Authenticator
The phrase IHG authenticator app can refer to two very different login environments.
| IHG account | Authentication situation |
|---|---|
| IHG One Rewards customer account | Public IHG documentation does not currently show a standard TOTP authenticator setup |
| IHG employee / Merlin network account | IHG documents second-factor authentication and Entrust authenticator workflows |
| Other IHG-connected corporate systems | Authentication depends on the individual platform |
IHG’s network account support specifically refers to Entrust, a second factor, MFA challenges, authenticator registration, and procedures for unlocking a locked authenticator.
So if you are an IHG employee searching because your authenticator is locked or not working, you are probably dealing with an IHG corporate authentication system, not an IHG One Rewards account.
How IHG Employee Authentication Works
IHG’s internal network support documentation shows that employees may need a second authentication factor when accessing corporate systems.
For example, the documented Entrust process can require:
- Entering an IHG or Merlin user ID.
- Entering the account password.
- Providing the required second factor.
- Completing the Entrust authentication challenge.
- Accessing the protected IHG system.
IHG also documents an “Unlock Account (Authenticator)” process for users who enter the wrong authenticator challenge multiple times. According to that support page, a locked authenticator may automatically unlock after a waiting period; users who remain locked out are directed to Global Support for authenticator removal or re-registration.
This process is specific to IHG’s corporate authentication environment.
Can I Use Authenticator App by Begamob With IHG?
Only if the IHG service you are using explicitly provides a standard authenticator QR code or TOTP setup key.
Authenticator App by Begamob can generate TOTP verification codes after a compatible service provides the setup secret. The normal setup process is:
- Open the security or MFA settings of the service.
- Choose Authenticator App if the option is available.
- Let the service generate a QR code or setup key.
- Scan that QR code with Authenticator App.
- Enter the generated verification code back into the service.
- Confirm the setup.
Authenticator App by Begamob supports standard OTP/2FA workflows and can scan compatible account QR codes.
However, do not assume that an IHG One Rewards account supports this process simply because an authenticator app can generate TOTP codes. IHG must support and initiate the enrollment first.
How to Check Your IHG One Rewards Security Settings
If your goal is to protect an IHG One Rewards membership, start inside the official IHG account rather than inside an authenticator app.
- Sign in to your IHG One Rewards account.
- Open Settings.
- Review your account and security information.
- Confirm that your registered email address is current.
- Use a unique password that you do not reuse on other sites.
- Look for any additional verification options offered directly by IHG.
IHG says members can manage account information through Settings, while password recovery is performed through a reset link sent to the registered email address.
If IHG later offers an authenticator option in your account, follow the exact enrollment instructions displayed there.
What if IHG Asks for a Verification Code?
A request for an IHG verification code does not automatically mean the code should come from an authenticator app.
Verification codes can be delivered through different systems, including:
- email;
- SMS;
- a corporate authenticator;
- an enterprise MFA platform;
- another security process used by a specific IHG application.
Check the wording on the IHG login screen carefully.
If it says a code was sent to your email or phone, use the code sent by IHG.
If it specifically says to open Entrust or another corporate authenticator, follow your organization’s MFA instructions.
If it displays a QR code and asks you to set up an authenticator app, then a compatible TOTP app may be appropriate.
IHG Authenticator Not Working
The correct fix depends on which IHG account you use.
For IHG One Rewards
If you cannot sign in:
- verify the email address and password;
- use IHG’s official password-reset process;
- check the registered email account for recovery instructions;
- contact IHG Customer Care if account access cannot be restored.
IHG’s customer FAQ specifically directs members to the Reset Password process when the password is forgotten.
For IHG Employee or Merlin Accounts
If the problem involves an Entrust authenticator or second-factor challenge, use the IHG network account support process.
IHG documents separate support paths for:
- forgotten passwords;
- locked passwords;
- locked authenticators;
- disabled accounts;
- authenticator re-registration.
Repeated incorrect authenticator challenges can cause the authenticator to be locked, so repeatedly guessing codes is not a good recovery strategy.
Lost Your Phone or Authenticator?
For an IHG corporate account, follow IHG’s internal support process rather than setting up a new authenticator independently. The existing MFA credential may need to be removed or re-registered by the appropriate support team.
For IHG One Rewards, use the recovery options provided by the official IHG website and make sure you still have access to the email address registered to your account.
Do not scan a QR code from an unofficial website claiming to restore your IHG authenticator. Enrollment information should come directly from the IHG system you are signing into.
