Authenticator App for ArenaNet: Set Up 2FA for Guild Wars 2

An ArenaNet authenticator app adds an extra layer of security to your Guild Wars 2 account by requiring a temporary verification code when ArenaNet detects a login from a new location or unknown network.

ArenaNet supports authenticator apps that use the TOTP/OATH standard (RFC 6238). That means you are not limited to one specific authenticator provider. If an authenticator app supports standard TOTP codes, it can be used during ArenaNet’s authenticator setup process.

To enable it, sign in to your ArenaNet account, open Security, edit 2-Step Verification, choose Use an authenticator, and scan the QR code with your authenticator app.

Does ArenaNet Support an Authenticator App?

Yes. ArenaNet officially supports authenticator apps for Guild Wars 2 accounts.

ArenaNet currently provides two main authentication methods:

• Email Authentication
• Authenticator App

Email Authentication is the default method. When an account does not have an authenticator app configured, ArenaNet can send a security code or authorization request to the account’s registered email when a login comes from a new or unknown network.

For users who prefer app-generated codes, ArenaNet supports authenticator apps using the standard TOTP/OATH protocol. Google Authenticator is listed by ArenaNet as one example, but any compatible TOTP app can work.

One important update: SMS Authentication is no longer available for new use on Guild Wars 2 accounts. ArenaNet now directs users toward its other authentication methods.

How to Set Up an ArenaNet Authenticator App

You can add an authenticator to an existing Guild Wars 2 account through the ArenaNet Account Management page.

Step 1: Sign In to Your ArenaNet Account

Open the official ArenaNet Account Management page and sign in using the email address and password associated with your Guild Wars 2 account.

Your ArenaNet account is the account used to manage Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 credentials, security settings, authorized networks, and other account information.

Step 2: Open Security Settings

After signing in:

1. Open Security.
2. Find Credentials.
3. Locate 2-Step Verification.
4. Select Edit.

This is where ArenaNet lets you manage the authentication method connected to your account.

Step 3: Choose “Use an Authenticator”

Select Use an authenticator.

ArenaNet will then begin the setup process and provide the information required to connect a TOTP authenticator to your account.

Step 4: Open Authenticator App by Begamob

Open Authenticator App by Begamob on your phone and choose the option to add a new account.

Use the built-in QR scanner to scan the QR code displayed by ArenaNet.

If ArenaNet provides a secret setup code instead, a compatible authenticator may also allow you to enter that code manually.

Step 5: Confirm the Verification Code

Once the QR code is scanned, the authenticator will begin generating temporary codes.

Enter the current code into ArenaNet when requested to complete the connection.

Authenticator codes change periodically, so if a code is close to expiring, wait for the next one before submitting it.

Step 6: Confirm 2-Step Verification Is Active

Return to the Security section and confirm that your authenticator is registered.

Once enabled, ArenaNet may request a verification code when your account is accessed from a new or unrecognized network.

Using Authenticator App by Begamob With ArenaNet

ArenaNet allows any authenticator that supports the TOTP/OATH standard, so a compatible TOTP authenticator can be used instead of being tied to one specific app.

The setup flow is:

ArenaNet Account → Security → 2-Step Verification → Use an authenticator → Scan QR code → Enter verification code

After setup, Authenticator App generates temporary codes for your ArenaNet account.

When ArenaNet asks for authentication:

1. Open Authenticator App.
2. Find the ArenaNet or Guild Wars 2 entry.
3. Read the current code.
4. Enter it into the ArenaNet verification screen.
5. Complete the login.

Do not create a random ArenaNet entry manually before beginning the enrollment process. The authenticator needs the unique secret generated by ArenaNet in order to create codes that match your account.
